SPEAK NOT THE WORDS

Speak not the words my heart would hear, nor reminisce of old ....

For tongues betray serenity, let calm o’er take my soul....

Speak not the words I crave within, nor phrase your thoughts aloud....

For speech, at best, is fumbling verse of love, yet un-endowed....

But speak the language love knows best, of quietness, touch, and tears....

The love that shines from glowing eyes will stay my tepid fears....

And brush my fingers with your lips to still the quiet dismay....

And prove your love will never fail by kissing doubt away....

Speak silently each day of love. Your verbal phrases keep....

The hair that falls around my face will wake me from my sleep....

All love has special meaning when the voices make no sound....

And touch recalls to memory, when no one is around....

Speak not of love without the thought that once the spell is o’er....

You’ll be with me when silence reigns and stay forevermore....
